110908 Go/No Go Revisited, Etc.

From DoctorWhen

28 weeks to go

Allen, David, Erik, Sean, & Wei-Hwa attended.

GO/NO GO REVISITED

Allen asked the team to revisit the go/no go decision. There are more than six months to go. He wanted to check in whether people were having fun with the creation process--after all, this is a hobby for us. The majority were, so we'll continue.

  • Allen will reevaluate what role in the remaining process would be good for him and good for the project.

Wei-Hwa raised the possibility of delaying from Spring, 2012 to Fall, 2012. Several members have chosen to limit their weekly investment of time in the project. These limits may not allow sufficient effort to achieve the desired level of awesomeness by spring, 2012. So pushing back to the Fall might allow full awesomeness to be achieved at a comfortable pace. The majority wanted to stick to the Spring, 2012 game date.

LOCATIONS

Erik confirmed that both Highlands Rec Center and Highlands Elementary School have been reserved.

SETS

Shoresh (with Allen driving) will kick off the set design process in earnest by visiting the Highlands Rec Center and Highlands Elementary School on Friday [now pushed back to Monday] to take measurements.

GRAPHICS & WEB SITES

David has stepped down from his role as "Graphics and Web Site Time Lord." We thank him for his work in this area.

  • We need someone else in this role...please contact Allen directly if you would be willing to fill this vital role

We reviewed Rigel's layout and original graphics for the "So You're Going To Be A Time Traveler" pamphlet used in Act III--great stuff. There will be some text changes required, but we're going to hold off on revisions until certain logistical aspects of the game are resolved a few months from now.

We agreed to do a final review of copy of the Trenchwood Institute web site in October. That should give us enough time to get it ready for a November launch.

Wei-Hwa will slightly revise the Trenchwood logo to make it work for a puzzle he's constructing.

PUZZLES/EVENTS

Five months till playtest, 40 puzzles needed means we need to fully finish approximately eight per month.

Now that Sean has returned from foreign lands he is going to spur this process on. Puzzle authors: expect a call!

The team brainstormed a few ideas about the Act I "Retrieve The Envelope" activity.

Wei-Hwa very kindly volunteered to store the puzzles after each has gone through Quality Control review.

The previous week we considered a template that puzzle authors can use to document solving solution, commonly-needed hints, etc. for their creations. It was decided to scrap the separate template and instead incorporate all hint material in the "Hints" section of the wiki.

Some authors may find it more challenging to write up their hints in the wiki because formatting is a bit more difficult than in Word. Wei-Hwa volunteered to port hint write-ups in Word to the wiki.

Erik noted that we're light on puzzles/activities for Act III. Perhaps we'll make some activities that force the players to do all the things they are told *not* to do in the tie in the "So You're Going To Be A Time Traveler" pamphlet.

VIDEOS

Great news for the "Calibration" video puzzle: it turns out that Ben Hansen has the skills and software to do green screen editing ("keying"). If we can get someone else to shoot the video [Christian has since agreed to do so] he will edit it all together.

  • Allen to get Ben, Christian, and Sarah all up to speed and turn them loose.
  • Wei-Hwa to get background footage to Ben

GC DAY-OF-GAME CONTROL

We agreed to get five lines in our rollover/hunt telephone system.

  • Sean will take over as point-of-contact with Corby of TellMe since they go way back.
