110106 Divide and Conquor

From DoctorWhen

Hi, team,

Dwight, Erik, Melissa, Trisha, Wei-Hwa and I met last night.

LOCATION

Unfortunately NIMBY has declined to host our event. They didn't give Allen a clear explanation over the phone for their about face. He's sent a follow-up email to see if that elicits a more substantive response.

Erik took the team on a quick tour of a recreation center near his home. Erik and Melissa have mentioned the place before, but seeing it in person it made a very positive impression. Erik is optimistic that we could rent it on the low end of $1,000 - $2,000. This is now the leading contender.

As next steps, Allen will negotiate with SOMArts to see if we can bring their quote back down from the stratosphere. This would likely require us to load the game in on early Saturday morning and load out on Sunday evening.

Erik will negotiate with the rec. center for a firm quote

Dwight will inquire about the price to rent a location he visited recently for a wedding reception.

The target date is still mid-September. The hope/expectation is that we'll be able to make a final decision next meeting.

DIVIDING AND CONQUORING THE TASKS TO PUT ON THE GAME

We reviewed the draft list of tasks required to put on our game. Based on that we rearranged them into four areas of responsibility:

Puzzles: Trisha agreed to be the "Time Lord" for this area. Wei-Hwa will assist her.

Technical: Includes tasks such as set design, set construction, costume design/creation, video production, actors. No one in the room felt qualified to be the time lord for this area. Allen will contact Sean to see if he has any advice and if he wants to head up this area.

Finance: Includes financial management, insurance, releases, all similar aspects of adult supervision. Erik agreed to be the Time Lord.

IT: This catch-all include development and management of the Game web site, video on demand, pre-Game material. It was agreed that this area isn't a bottleneck for now, so we tabled it.

Allen will remain the overall Time Lord/cat herder.

GAME SCRIPT

Erik and Allen started implementing Erik's suggestion of making a short script--sort of what would our Game be like if it were a movie. They'll hand it off to "script doctor" Trisha for revisions. Then hopefully we'll have a "table read through" at next meeting.

PUZZLES

We discussed Dwight's password/choose-your-own-adventure. The goal is to have the "unsullied" minds of Allen, Erik, and Sean playtest it next session.

At the meeting we discussed having Wei-Hwa make contents revisions for that meeting. However, since yesterday's meeting I realized I misrepresented the state of the puzzle. In fact, Dwight thinks that it would be productive to playtest the puzzle with the revisions he's made to date. So I've asked Wei-Hwa to hold off on his work till after next session.
