Location Notes

Not a separate location; they'll just do this wherever they solved the previous puzzle.

Type

Mandatory Puzzle

Plot Setup

With the players' help, Doctor When has been sent to his high school right before the 1986 science fair. Neither Prof. Chronus nor the players know why he chose this time and place.

Doctor When explained over the View-O-Scope that he lost an envelope with "technical information vital for restoring the timeline" during his turbulent travels through time. He asks the players to find the "instructions" and have it sent to him back in time.

Props

Reuses the disk with the View-O-Scope Computer Remote Access Program.

Plot Point to Convey

  • The envelope was lost at Ft. Point in around 1958.

Short Description

Players must study the video of the Doctor's journey through time to figure out where he lost the envelope.

Detailed Description

Careful study of the video log from the View-O-Scope reveals that Doctor When had the envelope in all scenes up until Vertigo, during which he lost it. The View-O-Scope message log will also display "mass loss detected."

How To Give To Teams

[If this puzzle directly follows Send Me Back, then this information duplicates the information in that puzzle's "How To Respond To Correct Answer" section.]

Lab assistant over the phone says words to the effect of,

All right...we finally got the time machine to open a portal for Doctor When just before we lost contact and we sent him back to school!
Enter code YYYY in the View-O-Scope Computer Remote Access Program and then we can see if it worked. I'll hang up now and watch myself. When you're done call the Institute and speak with any lab assistant.

Whichever event precedes this one, the post-video viewing phone call should go something like:

VISITORS
Hello, Trenchwood? The Doctor needs us to find his envelope.
LAB ASSISTANT
Yes, I saw the remote feed, too. I suggest you scrutinize the original View-O-Scope datastream that you viewed when we were calibrating the time machine. That was access code XXXX. Perhaps you will be able to detect where he lost it. Then call the Institute and speak with any lab assistant.

SUPPLEMENTAL EMAIL

Research Project Title: Locate The Envelope
Objective: Scrutinize the original View-O-Scope datastream to determine when and where Doctor When lost his envelope
Location: current
Upon Completion: Call the Institute and speak with any lab assistant

Puzzle Answer

Ft. Point in San Francisco around 1958.

Puzzle Solution

Simply review the footage from the Calibration puzzle, paying attention to the envelope. Observe that the footage where it is lost was shot at Ft. Point.

Hints

  • Review the View-O-Scope log
  • Carefully observe which scenes Doctor When has the envelope and which ones he doesn't.
  • Review the View-O-Scope's message window.

Response to Correct Answer

[This will always lead straight into Retrieve The Letter, so we're combining this response with that event's "how to give."]

Over the phone lab assistant says words to the effect of,

Yes! We've noticed some tachyon disturbances near Ft. Point. I wonder how far in the past he lost the envelope... let's hope that by some miracle it's still there.
Please go there now. You'll probably want to take Mason St. because of construction closures on Lincoln Ave. Park at the intersection of Mason Street and Pearce Street, then walk west the rest of the way.
If you find it, give it to one of the other lab assistants at that location to rush back to Prof. Chronos. Now go!

SUPPLEMENTAL EMAIL

Research Project Title: Retrieve The Envelope
Objective: Search where the envelope was lost back in 1958 and attempt to retrieve it
Location: Fort Point, San Francisco (approach via Mason Street because of construction street closures; park at the intersection of Mason Street and Pearce Street, then walk west the rest of the way.)
Upon Completion: Give the envelope to onsite lab assistant to rush back to the Institute;
Parking: free lot
Bathrooms At Location: Yes
Food At Location: No

To Do

Cannot be tested until Calibration puzzle is complete. Figure out parking options at location at Retrieve The Letter location; add to text above.

Other Notes

Listed as a separate puzzle simply because it requires separate play testing and time tracking. Not intended to be a difficult challenge.
